Job summary

Symphony Healthcare Services are recruiting for Healthcare Assistants to be based at our Symphony North practices (Burnham on Sea, Berrow & Highbridge Medical Centres) and Burnham on Sea War Memorial Hospital (MIU) in Somerset, with the flexibility to work full or part time covering the hours of 08:00 to 20:00.

You'll be a confident, able to independently support and manage patients, while working collaboratively with our multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, patient focused care.

We have 72 hours vacant - so full-time, part time and job share opportunities will be considered - please state your preference in your application.

Main duties of the job

Working under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

The post-holder will also work within the Minor Injuries Unit, supporting the Emergency Care Practitioner and Primary Care Practitioner in the assessment and management of patients presenting with minor injuries and urgent primary care needs. The Healthcare Assistant will assist with clinical observations, wound care, patient preparation and general support to ensure safe, effective and timely patient care in accordance with practice protocols and scope of practice.

  • New patient health checks BMI, Urinalysis
  • ECG recording
  • INR monitoring
  • To undertake Doppler testing
  • Blood Pressure Monitoring following practice hypertension guidelines, issue HBPM in accordance with practice policy
  • Phlebotomy including perform annual blood tests, BP, BMI, ACR as requested for patients with chronic diseases
  • Urinalysis MSU, ACR in accordance with practice policy
  • Wound Care suture removal in accordance with practice policy, following training
  • Weight Management
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurse
  • Administer influenza vaccines according to PSD, following training
  • Administer B12 injections according to PSD
  • To undertake Spirometry for GP to interpret results
  • Support the Emergency Care Practitioner and Primary Care Practitioner in the Minor Injuries Unit, assisting in the assessment and management of patients presenting with minor injuries in accordance with training and practice protocols
  • Assist with the management of minor injuries including wound care, dressings, basic observations and preparation of patients for clinical assessment where appropriate and within scope of practice
  • Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations, coils and implants
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
  • Help to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
  • Assist with recall systems
  • Lifestyle advice, (diet, weight, exercise, smoking cessation, alcohol) making necessary referrals within PHCT and local support services
  • Maintain health promotion information in waiting room designated for patient education
  • Any other duties as instructed by management
