As a Practice Nurse at Springfield Surgery, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality nursing care and supporting the health and wellbeing of our patients. Working closely with GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals, you will help provide safe, effective and compassionate care to our local community.
This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week, usually worked over two days. We can offer some flexibility in the working pattern for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
To provide safe, effective and caring nursing services to patients registered at the practice. The Practice Nurse will work as part of the wider practice team and support the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Main Duties
- Carry out patient health checks and basic nursing assessments.
- Take blood samples and record blood pressure, weight and other observations.
- Provide wound care, dressings and removal of stitches or clips.
- Give vaccinations and injections in line with practice procedures.
- Carry out cervical screening where trained and competent.
- Support patients with long-term health conditions using agreed care plans.
- Provide general health advice and promote healthy lifestyles.
- Maintain accurate and clear patient records.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
- Keep clinical rooms, equipment and supplies clean, safe and well organised.
- Recognise when a patient needs further medical advice and refer them to the appropriate clinician.
- Work closely with GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants and reception staff.
- Attend practice meetings and complete required training.
- Follow practice policies, confidentiality requirements and safeguarding procedures.

Qualifications and Experience
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Able to work safely and independently within their level of competence.
- Experience in general practice is helpful but not essential.
- Training and support can be provided for suitable candidates.

General ResponsibilitiesThe postholder must work within the NMC Code, practice policies and relevant legal and professional requirements. Duties may be updated following discussion to meet the changing needs of the practice.
