Job description

The postholder will be part of the clinical research team, currently comprised of six research nurses, five research assistants, doctors, and other non-clinical members.

The post holder will work collaboratively with Principal Investigators, co investigators and all staff involved with clinical research across the Centre and affiliated NHS Trusts.

The post holder will ensure oversight of studies, conduct risk assessments, contribute to education, training and clinical management within the clinical research team and support nurse revalidation. There is the need for visibility, flexibility, expert communication, and teaching skills to engender understanding and support for the research processes. Research nurses are responsible for the oversight of a portfolio of studies, and lead in all communication to support recruitment, the reporting of clinical events, the collection of quality controlled data and effective communication with external sponsors. The postholder will also contribute to networking across the trust as well the wider community to expand on recruitment into research. Research nurses in the team may be allocated to any of the portfolio of 15-20 current studies. They will have an honorary NHS contract and are able to remain on the NHS pension scheme if already a member.

The role is full time (i.e. 36.5 hours per week) and is available immediately for 12 months in the first instance.

An acceptable enhanced DBS check is required to carry out this role.

Salary range: £43,981 - £52,586 per annum (including London Allowance), depending on experience.

The post holder must have a current professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and evidence of commitment to continuous professional development.

They must have completed Good Clinical Practice training or commit to undertake this on appointment (training will be provided). They must also have experience of clinical research/clinical trials and/or gathering and analysing research data. Knowledge of sexual health, infectious diseases and blood-borne virus infection and understanding of data protection and confidentiality issues are essential.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in sexual health, infectious diseases and/or HIV/BBV and they will have excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation skills.

This post is based in the UCL Centre for Clinical Research in Infection and Sexual Health. The Centre has a research programme covering a wide range of studies from observational cohort studies, qualitative and mixed methods studies to intervention trials. Historically most of the work has focussed on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections including viral hepatitis. However, our portfolio of research extends to other infectious diseases research particularly TB, COVID-19, and Mpox.
