Job description:

Are you a finance professional who enjoys analysing data, solving problems and building strong relationships with stakeholders? Do you want to develop your finance skills while supporting world-leading research and innovation?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Finance Assistant to join the Finance team at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), part of the University of Sheffield. In this role, you will support a diverse portfolio of research grants, government-funded programmes and commercial projects that help shape the future of advanced manufacturing.

Working closely with our Assistant Finance Business Partners, you will play a key role in the financial management of projects throughout their lifecycle. You'll help ensure projects remain financially robust and compliant, while providing high quality financial support and advice to colleagues across the organisation.

We're looking for someone who is proactive, organised and customer-focused, with the confidence to analyse and interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to a range of stakeholders. You will enjoy working collaboratively, managing competing priorities and identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working.

In this varied role, you will:

Act as a first point of contact for finance enquiries through the team's shared mailbox.

Provide financial guidance to researchers and professional services colleagues.

Perform project management activities for commercial projects; raising invoices, performing project reviews and closing down accounts.

Support the financial audit requirements of large research grants, providing assistance for Assistant Finance Business Partners.

Monitor project expenditure, forecasts and financial performance for smaller research grants.

Contribute to process improvements and the development of an efficient, customer-focused finance service.

You will have excellent communication and customer service skills, be able to work effectively under your own initiative and have the ability to analyse, interpret and explain financial information. Experience of Accounting (ERP) systems such as SAP and strong Excel skills would be advantageous.

£27,319 to £31,236 per annum
