Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and innovative Registered Nurses to join our ward teams as Clinical Practice Lead or through our Aspiring Clinical Practice Lead programme. If you have inpatient mental health experience for the post, or feel some focused development could prepare you for this role, please consider applying. You will join the management teams on our inpatient psychiatric wards in the mental health unit.

If successful, you will join the Trust's aspiring Clinical Practice Lead programme. You will follow a programme of on-the-ward development, which is detailed in the booklet attached. You will receive a contract as a band 6 nurse and will undertake the role of a Band 6 nurse as your development progresses.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Practice Lead will support the Clinical Nurse Manager with 24-hour operational responsibility and accountability for the provision and management of high quality nursing care and for the treatment of service users within the inpatient service area. You will be required to support developing the service and nursing team, support care delivery and work with service users and staff to ensure the provision of practices that respond effectively to both individual and service need.

Job description

  • To coordinate and deliver safe, person-centred, recovery-focused nursing care to service users with complex mental health needs, working autonomously within professional scope of practice.
  • To organise clinical activities and workloads, ensuring effective use of resources and continuity of care.
  • To provide clinical leadership, guidance and supervision to junior staff, promoting professional development and high standards of practice.
  • To promote the prevention and reduction of restrictive practices through trauma-informed care, positive engagement, de-escalation and least restrictive approaches.
  • To ensure any restrictive interventions are necessary, proportionate, lawful and compliant with Trust policies, with appropriate monitoring, documentation and post-incident review.
  • To contribute to individualised care plans, risk assessments and positive behaviour support strategies that promote recovery, dignity, safety and service-user involvement.
  • To support evidence-based practice, clinical governance, safeguarding, incident management and continuous quality improvement.
  • To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, service users, carers and external agencies to support effective communication, patient flow and discharge planning.
  • To promote service-user rights, equality, inclusion and professional accountability in accordance with the NMC Code and relevant legislation.
  • To maintain ongoing professional development through supervision, appraisal, training and reflective practice.
