Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centred general medical services to our registered patient population.
  • Undertake a mixture of face-to-face and telephone consultations, managing both acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Participate in the practice on-call rota, including assessment and management of urgent patient requests.
  • Undertake home visits where clinically appropriate, recognising that the practice has a low home-visiting workload.
  • Provide continuity of care for patients.
  • Assess, investigate, diagnose and manage patients across the full range of general practice.
  • Prescribe safely and effectively in accordance with local and national prescribing guidance.
  • Work collaboratively with our practice pharmacist, nursing team, healthcare assistants and administrative staff.
  • Support the appropriate use of the wider multidisciplinary team.

Job description

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Undertake a proportionate share of the practice's clinical administrative workload.
  • Review and action pathology and investigation results.
  • Review hospital correspondence and clinical communications, taking appropriate action.
  • Complete referrals and associated clinical documentation.
  • Manage prescription requests and medication-related queries as appropriate, with support from the practice pharmacist.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records.
  • Complete relevant reports, certificates and other clinical correspondence as required.
  • Respond appropriately to patient queries and administrative requests requiring GP input.

Teamworking and Practice Development

  • Work collaboratively with GP partners, salaried GPs and the wider practice team.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive and professional working environment.
  • Participate in clinical and practice meetings as appropriate.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, clinical audit and significant event analysis.
  • Support the practice in meeting contractual and quality requirements under the Welsh GMS contract.
  • Participate in safeguarding activities and maintain high standards of clinical governance.
  • Contribute to the teaching and supervision of GP trainees and other learners where appropriate to experience and agreed responsibilities.
  • Support the ongoing development of practice services and patient care pathways.

Additional Responsibilities for a GP Partner:

For candidates interested in partnership, the role would also involve:

  • Sharing responsibility for the clinical and operational management of the practice.
  • Participating in partnership meetings and collective decision-making.
  • Contributing to the strategic direction and future development of the practice.
  • Sharing responsibility for the financial sustainability and effective running of the business.
  • Supporting workforce planning, recruitment and staff development.
  • Taking responsibility for agreed areas of clinical or operational leadership according to individual interests and skills.
  • Contributing to the management and development of the practice's dispensing services.
  • Supporting the delivery and development of NHS contractual and enhanced services.
  • Representing the practice at relevant external meetings where agreed.
  • Working collaboratively with the other partners and practice management team to maintain a sustainable and successful practice.

We welcome enquiries for further information as well as informal visits to the practice.
