Job summary

We are looking for a Senior Clinical Fellow in PEM, at middle grade level or above (see person specification), to help take the department forward. The fellowship provides an excellent opportunity to develop a 'specialist interest' while gaining additional experience in PEM in a hospital that looks after a financially and ethnically diverse population.

Main duties of the job

This job will entail protected 20% of your time for Leadership and Governance development within the Emergency Department. We are looking for a candidate who can deliver a significant leadership and governance project within the Emergency Department. On appointment to this post, a discussion between the successful candidate and the supervisor would occur, to be able to prepare for a QI project that is both of interest to the candidate and the department.

Job description

The post-holders will be an integral part of the clinical team and will carry out the following duties:

Reception, examination, diagnosis, resuscitation, treatment and management of patients in the Emergency Department until appropriate transfer to inpatient facility or discharge home. This includes both medical and trauma patients.

Running flow, safety and clinical decision making of department at night (0000-0800) when consultant is on-call from home.

Supervision of more junior medical staff in the Emergency Department.

Participation in the Trust Major Incident Procedure.

Participation in delivering teaching to undergraduate students attached to the Department.

Attendance at departmental meetings as appropriate.

Participation in annual NHS appraisal.
