Tree OfficerCouncil

Mansfield - Hermitage Lane 37 hours/week £35,570 - £40,444 per annum
Posted 16 September 2026 Closing date 18 September 2026

Mansfield District Council is looking for a skilled and motivated Tree Officer to help manage, protect and enhance the District’s tree stock. This is a varied and influential role, combining practical arboricultural work with statutory planning responsibilities, public enquiries, contractor supervision and support for the Council’s future Tree Strategy.

As the Council’s first point of contact for tree matters, you will provide specialist arboricultural advice to Council departments, elected Members, residents, contractors and other stakeholders. You will respond to operational and emergency tree issues, investigate enquiries and complaints, and ensure tree works are completed safely, effectively and to the required standards.

Reporting to the Infrastructure Projects and Assets Assistant Manager, you will help organise day-to-day tree-related activity, commission and supervise external contractors, and communicate work requirements and standards to employees and contractors. Although the role has no formal direct reports, it requires strong coordination, sound judgement and the ability to influence quality and compliance across arboricultural operations.

You will need a degree in Arboriculture, or equivalent, and a full driving licence. Experience of dealing with statutory bodies, residents, Councillors, community leaders and other Council officers would be desirable.

Practical requirements:

You must be able to respond to operational and emergency matters during and outside normal working hours, work outside normal hours when required, and participate in an on-call rota. The role involves site surveys, inspections and meetings across the District. Driving is essential and relevant DVLA licence checks will be undertaken. The postholder is eligible for a casual car user allowance and may be required to attend Council meetings.

Why apply?

This is an opportunity to make a visible contribution to the local environment and public safety. You will apply your professional expertise across operational tree management, planning and protected-tree matters, while supporting high-quality services and value for money for Mansfield’s communities.

Closing date: 18 September 2026

Interviews: week commencing 5 October 2026
