Job summary

The Neuroscience ICU is a busy Multi-Trauma Critical Care Centre located in the purpose-built facility at the Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust, based at the JR site. We provide specialist services for neurosciences, neurology, trauma and specialist surgery patients. We are looking for someone to join our team in Neuro ICU as a Ward Clerk / Receptionist. This is a vital role within our service for someone who is organised, friendly, a great team player and has excellent and compassionate communication skills.

Main duties of the job

The Ward Clerk / Receptionist will provide a professional, comprehensive and effective reception and administrative service, maintaining a high quality and efficient service to all colleagues and patients.

The Ward Clerk / Receptionist will act as the first point of contact for patients, relatives and visiting staff to the department, welcoming them to the unit and dealing with any queries in an efficient, polite and courteous manner and responding to all telephone enquiries in a prompt and professional manner.

The Trust uses an electronic patient record (EPR) system, so competence and confidence with computer skills is necessary. A background in health care setting would be an advantage but not a necessity as full training will be provided.

Job description

Act as a first point of contact for patients, relatives and visiting staff to the department, welcoming them to the unit and dealing with any queries in an efficient, polite and courteous manner and responding to all telephone enquiries in a prompt and professional manner.

Scan paper documents into EPR via SCAN IT

Book and track medical records, ensuring that all medical records are in order before leaving the unit

Prepare notes for patient transfer to other hospitals and support with booking ambulances where appropriate.

Ensure all patient records are correct and ensure patient admissions, discharges and transfers are recorded in a timely manner on the patient administration system.

Ensure adherence with the Data Protection Act and Trust procedures in respect of confidentiality and the patient record
