Lecturer in Exploration GeologyUniversity

Cardiff Full time £41,064 - £46,049 a year
Posted 18 August 2026 Closing date 15 September 2026

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the School of Physical, Chemical and Environmental Sciences, Cardiff University, is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Exploration Geology.

The successful candidate should share our passion for high quality research and research-led education and will contribute to a range of undergraduate Earth and Environmental Science teaching; including lectures and workshops, geoscience practical classes and fieldwork, and supervision of undergraduate and taught postgraduate research and placement projects in both Cardiff University and Cardiff University Kazakhstan. You will also co-supervise postgraduate research students. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of the ability to develop and sustain an internationally-recognised, externally-funded research programme in exploration geology. We are particularly interested in hiring a colleague with expertise in one of the following areas: geology applied to mineral exploration and evaluation; ore mineralogy and geometallurgy; or mining geology.

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a lively and dynamic community that aims to promote sustainability through education, dissemination and direct participation, enabling students and staff to make positive changes to our environmental impact, in particular supporting Cardiff University’s declaration of a Climate Emergency and aim to become carbon neutral (Scopes 1 and 2) by 2030.

The Department is committed to promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism including the Athena SWAN charter for promoting inclusive working practices in STEMM subjects in higher education. We particularly welcome female applicants and those from an ethnic minority because they are under-represented within the Department.

The position is full-time (35 hours per week), available immediately and is an open-ended appointment.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualification and experience, within the following grade band:

Lecturer Salary: £41,064 - £46,049 per annum (Grade 6)
