Grade F: £36,636 to £46,049 per annum

Grade G: £47,389 to £56,535 per annum

The role

The Economics Subject Group is a collegiate and generalist group of close to 40 academics with expertise in all areas of economics. We strive to deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality and attract highly qualified students to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

We have a vibrant research community. Our research spans a wide range of fields within economics, loosely organised around four active research groups: (i) Macroeconomics; (ii) Applied/Empirical Microeconomics; (iii) Behavioural and Experimental Economics; and (iv) Economic Theory. Many research activities, such as the internal and external research seminar series, and the PhD work-in-progress seminar series, are group-wide. Across all areas we have significant depth in doing applied, policy-relevant research. Colleagues have active funded projects in a range of areas including the Creative Industries and their internationalisation, Health, Development, Energy, Environmental, and Rural Economics. We also host a state-of-the-art Behavioural Research Laboratory. In terms of real-world impact, we have a long established national and international record of generating impact around the valuation of fatality risk and more recently in the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre.

We invite applications from strong candidates, committed to collegiality, from all fields of economics.

You will hold, or be close to obtaining, a relevant PhD and will be able to demonstrate a capacity to publish in journals of international standing. You will have: (i) A clear and viable strategy for sustained future research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications; and (ii) the ability to teach economics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Formal applications should include a curriculum vitae and a job market paper. Please combine your job paper with either your CV or Covering Letter and upload this to the relevant section of the system in one document.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Nils Braakmann ([email protected]), and Professor Jytte Nielsen ([email protected]), the Joint Heads of the Economics Group.

We plan to hold the presentations on the morning of November 16th 2026 and the interviews on the same afternoon. We are aware that there may be time zone differences and we will aim to accommodate this if possible.
