We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant/Associate to contribute/make a leading contribution to the project "Unravelling the role of the gut microbiome in perioperative outcomes and disease recurrence in surgical adults with Crohn’s disease treated with exclusive enteral nutrition”- The Mi-OCEAN study. The aim of the Mi-OCEAN study is to explore whether changes to the microbiome seen during 6-week EEN, and maintenance of these changes post-surgery, predict peri-operative outcomes and risk of disease recurrence, respectively, in adults with CD. The Mi-OCEAN is a mechanistic study impended within the OCEaN clinical trial which runs across the UK.

The postholder will work with Professor Konstantinos Gerasimidis’ clinical and laboratory-based research team and with partners from the University of Birmingham, University of Strathclyde and the Earlham Institute.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week) and has funding available until 30th September 2028, with possibility for extension for a further two years.

Grade 6/7, £33,951 - £37,694 / £41,064 - £46,049 per annum
