The Role

The School of Psychology at Newcastle University (https://www.ncl.ac.uk/psychology/) is looking to appoint enthusiastic, full-time members of staff to contribute to our undergraduate teaching provision. We welcome applications from all core disciplines of Psychology as well as Health, Clinical, and Sport & Exercise Psychology. The posts are open ended.

We particularly encourage junior colleagues to apply as the post holder will start on a Teaching & Scholarship contract. However, there is an expectation to develop their research independence and to move to a Teaching & Research contract when ready.

Key Accountabilities

To undertake teaching, module leadership, and supervision of research projects of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Psychology

To act as a personal tutor/Academic Advisor to a group of students

To contribute to student support, course planning and curriculum development as deemed necessary

To support the school in an administrative role

To contribute to the promotion of psychology programmes and student recruitment (e.g. via Open Days)

To undertake other duties, such as participation in School, Faculty and University meetings, as detailed by the Head of School

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Specialist knowledge in one or more areas of psychology relevant to our UG programmes

Understanding of current themes and issues in the delivery of BPS-accredited Psychology programmes

Ability to teach Research Methods and Data Analysis, using R. Ability to lead and contribute to the delivery of other undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision

Understanding of the processes to conduct and disseminate scientific research, including knowledge of how to make research open, reproducible, robust, and ethical

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders (including academic and non-academic audiences)

Excellent organisational, administrative and planning skills

Experience of leadership and citizenship roles commensurate with career stage

Qualifications

Essential

PhD in Psychology or related discipline

Desirable

Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent experience e.g. Fellowship of the HEA (FHEA)

Post-doctoral experience

£36,636 to £38,784 with progression to £46,049 per annum
