Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Special Needs Health Care Assistant based at Victoria College to support the needs of students aged 19-25 with complex health and learning needs.

The working hours are 25.0 hours/week over 5 days (Monday-Friday), 5.0 hours per day 10;00 - 15:00 Term-Time only. No weekend work is required for this role.

If you have an NVQ level 3 in Care/Social Care and experience of working with adults, especially young adults with complex additional health needs, we would like to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

o To assist with nursing care including delegated clinical procedures as set out in the Care Plan and following appropriate competency assessed training.

o To assist students, where appropriate, encouraging self-care and achievement of independence.

o To ensure accurate, timely and effective communication to the college nurse when receiving workload instructions and when reporting back information about students.

o Liaise with parents/carers, on behalf of the college nurse or other professionals, over the telephone, giving support in relation to health issues.

o Undertake home visits with members of the multi-professional team.

o To maintain strict confidentiality in relation to all information and records.

o Undertake appropriate action when concerns, e.g. adult protection issues, are identified, reporting to the college nurse and other relevant professionals and accurately recording issues/actions.

o To work within Trust Policies and Procedures and within agreed clinical standards for the Service.

Job description

To report any changes in the condition and/or circumstances of students to the college nurse.

To assist the college nurse to undertake health promotion activities with individuals or Groups including parents/carers.

Participate in audits as required.

Observes own personal duty of care to equipment and resources.

To take reasonable care for health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work and to co-operate with Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in adhering to the Statutory and Unit Safety Regulations.

To comply with the following:

a) Trust Policies and Procedures

b) Health and Safety Regulations and Fire Regulations

Undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.

To minimize the Trusts environmental impact wherever possible, including recycling, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use. Helping to reduce paper waste by minimizing printing/copying and reducing water usage, reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly and minimizing travel. Where the role includes the ordering and use of supplies or equipment the post holder will consider the environmental impact of purchases.
