Are you practical, resilient and motivated by making a visible difference in your community? We’re looking for a dedicated Domestic Clearance and Cleansing Operative (Public Health) to join our Environmental Services team. This is a varied, hands‑on role where no two days are the same — from clearing waste and improving local environments to supporting our Pest Control Service across domestic and commercial settings.

About the Role

As a key member of our frontline team, you will deliver a responsive waste clearance and cleansing service across the County. You’ll safely remove waste, cleanse properties and communal areas, and support environmental improvement projects. You will also play an important role in delivering pest control treatments, inspections and advice to residents and businesses.

This role involves working in challenging environments, engaging sensitively with vulnerable customers, and using a range of vehicles, tools and equipment safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Waste removal & clearance — Attend properties and sites to remove waste, bulky items and contaminated materials.
  • Cleansing duties — Cleanse properties and communal areas using manual and mechanical equipment, ensuring tools are maintained.
  • Equipment & machinery operation — Use cleansing tools and identify appropriate equipment for each task.
  • Vehicle operation — Drive Large Council Vehicles
  • Customer engagement — Communicate professionally and sensitively with customers, including those with complex needs.
  • Working in hazardous environments — Carry out tasks in unpleasant or Filthy & Verminous conditions, using full PPE.
  • Manual handling — Safely handle heavy or contaminated materials, assessing risks dynamically.
  • Documentation & digital recording — Complete legal documentation, inventories, photographic evidence and digital records.
  • Pest control treatments — Administer treatments for rodents, insects and other pests in line with regulations.
  • Waste segregation & disposal — Ensure compliant waste segregation, transport documentation and digital record‑keeping.
  • Service delivery & inspections — Visit domestic and commercial premises to identify and treat pest issues.
  • Vehicle & equipment checks — Ensure all equipment is compliant, serviced and safe to use.
  • Record keeping & evidence — Maintain accurate daily records and provide witness statements when required.
  • Financial quotations — Provide accurate costings for work on behalf of the Council.

What We’re Looking For

  • Full clean driving licence
  • Physical fitness — Able to carry out demanding manual work
  • GCSEs in Maths, English
  • Experience in pest control or similar environments
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Working Environment

You will work in a wide range of environments, including confined spaces, heights, and areas with unpleasant or hazardous conditions. Full PPE, including respirators, must be worn where required. Regular manual handling and use of pest control application equipment are integral to the role.

Why Join Us?

  • Make a real impact on community wellbeing
  • Work in a supportive team with strong training and development opportunities
  • Gain experience across environmental services and pest control
  • Contribute to a safer, cleaner and healthier County

If you’re motivated, resilient and ready for a role that truly matters, we’d love to hear from you!
