Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a four-session Salaried GP to join our experienced clinical team. This post is supported by the 2026/27 Practice-level GP Reimbursement Scheme.

We are a friendly practice on the outskirts of Sheffield, serving a mixed urban and rural community of over 8,700 patients.

We are flexible on working days for the right candidate, although we would particularly welcome applicants who are able to work on Fridays. Each session consists of 12 consultations, comprising a mix of telephone and face-to-face appointments. There is no requirement to contribute to on-calls or duty doctor commitments, and 15-minute consultations can be facilitated on request.

We have a multidisciplinary clinical team, including an ANP and paramedic team. Home visits are occasional, with the majority undertaken by our paramedics. GPs contribute to the remaining visits as required.

This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027, with the option to extend subject to the national funding continuing into future years.

The position is eligible for the NHS Pension Scheme. Salary is dependent on skills and experience, with 6 weeks' annual leave pro rata.

Main duties of the job

The GP will undertake a variety of duties governed by the GMS contract and objectives of Enhanced Services, including:

  • In-person consultations
  • Telephone consultations
  • Online consultations
  • Home visits
  • Pathology results
  • Clinical correspondence
  • Prescription

Job description

  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Cover all the clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate
  • Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols and relevant guidance such as NICE
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Check, read and interpret pathological results for patients
  • Ensure appropriate follow up of patients
  • Record clear and contemporaneous computerised consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Ensure that practice clinical database is updated promptly and accurately with information relating to patient records, as required for clinical accuracy and for practice recording requirements under QOF and enhanced services.
  • Appropriate use of clinical coding.
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribe appropriately and in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary, NICE guidance, and Good Prescribing Practice (as defined by British National Formulary guidance)
  • Work with and provide support to other members of the primary health care team.

About us

Tramways Medical Centre is a well-established, medium-sized, single-site practice providing friendly and supportive care for over 8,700 patients.

We have a multidisciplinary team including GP Partners, nurses, paramedics, and other clinical staff, supported by dedicated reception, administration, and secretarial teams. We have low staff turnover and value a collaborative and supportive working environment.

We are an approved training practice with two GP trainers and GP trainees. We meet for lunch daily and have regular clinical team and whole-practice team meetings.

We do not provide care home services. We use SystmOne for clinical record-keeping and do not currently use AI scribes for documentation.

We are a high-achieving QOF practice and were rated Good by the CQC at our last inspection.
