Job summary
The position is for 18 hours over two days (Monday and Tuesday) on a short term fixed contract .
We are looking for a General Practice Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly team of four GP partners, three Salaried GPs, two Practice Nurses and two Healthcare Assistants. Hyde Park Surgery is an inner-city Practice, near Leeds University.
In this role you will assist our clinicians in the care of our patients, including treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. You will work under the supervision of the practice nursing team and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols. The post will include some administrative duties.
Basic Healthcare Assistant training is essential, including venepuncture, taking observations and ECG taking. Experience working in a GP surgery would be beneficial.
The ideal candidate will need to be friendly, efficient with communication skills and a strong sense of empathy and resilience.
Main duties of the job
The role includes, but is not limited to the following:
- perform venepuncture
- undertake baseline observations - blood pressure/pulse and assist with long term condition monitoring
- perform ECG recording for patients
- perform B12/flu injections but is not exhaustive, working to PSD and under the instruction of trained nursing colleagues
- ensure that specimens brought in by patients, or taken by doctors are tested and recorded appropriately or ready for collection by the pathology service
- chaperoning duties where necessary
- we also offer ongoing training

About us
We are a friendly practice made up of 7 GPs near to the University of Leeds, serving a young and ethnically diverse population of 11,000 patients. Our multidisciplinary team involves pharmacists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, social prescriber and mental health workers. We are a teaching practice for medical students. Our Practice Manager works part time and is supported by the Assistant Practice Manager. We have a hard working and dedicated team of receptionists who are supported by the Reception Manger.
