Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Practice Nurse or Paramedic to join Shevington Surgery as a Trainee Advanced Practitioner.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward-thinking clinician who is ready to take the next step in their career and develop their skills within Advanced Clinical Practice.

The successful candidate will undertake a recognised Advanced Practitioner training programme, with all university and training fees fully funded by the practice.

The role will involve a combination of clinical work within the practice and university study, with approximately 12 days per week dedicated to university, depending on the requirements of the training programme.

You will be supported throughout your training by our experienced GP Partners and wider multidisciplinary clinical team.

Main duties of the job

As a Trainee Advanced Practitioner, you will develop your ability to assess, diagnose, manage and review patients presenting with a wide range of clinical conditions.

The role will include:

  • Providing high-quality, patient-centred clinical care.
  • Undertaking comprehensive clinical assessments.
  • Developing advanced clinical examination and diagnostic skills.
  • Managing patients presenting with acute and chronic conditions.
  • Developing autonomous clinical decision-making skills within your scope of practice.
  • Working collaboratively with GPs, Practice Nurses, Paramedics and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Undertaking home visits as required.
  • Developing skills in the assessment and management of undifferentiated and complex presentations.
  • Participating in clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Attending university and completing all academic requirements associated with the Advanced Practitioner programme.
  • Taking an active role in your own professional development.
  • Working within professional, legal and practice guidelines at all times.

As your training progresses, you will be supported to develop increasing levels of autonomy and responsibility appropriate to your level of competence and experience.

Shevington Surgery is a busy and well-established GP practice in Wigan with a list size of approximately 13,700 patients.

We have 7 GP Partners and a strong, friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team.
