The post holder will be responsible for delivering specialised clinical care to their own caseload and service within their speciality area. This role will predominantly involve assessing children and young people for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in line with NICE guidance.
Please note that this role will primarily involve assessing young people virtually.
You will have the opportunity to support the Clinical Team Lead in developing the ADHD assessment pathway within the team, sharing specialist clinical knowledge, providing clinical supervision to peers, and developing strong links with our ADHD intervention pathway. Whilst this role mainly focuses on ADHD assessments, the position sits within the wider Children's Neurodevelopmental Team, and knowledge and expertise in autism are also desirable.
The post holder will work in accordance with professional and regulatory body codes, standards, and guidance, always ensuring that their practice is grounded in evidence-based theoretical and practical knowledge.
The team includes a Clinical Team Leader, Consultant Doctors, an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, a Speciality Doctor, Pharmacists, Specialist Nurses/Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Nursing Associates, and a Healthcare Assistant.
Main duties of the job
- Utilise specialist clinical skills to complete neurodevelopmental assessments (ADHD), support diagnostic decision-making, and provide feedback to young people and their families.
- Recognise the need for, initiate, and, where appropriate, interpret relevant diagnostic investigations.
- Recognise the need for, and where appropriate seek, advice from relevant specialisms.
- Liaise closely with other members of the MDT to ensure that a detailed and comprehensive diagnostic assessment is completed in line with NICE guidance.
- Be responsible for ensuring that clinical outcome data is appropriately collated and routinely recorded in accordance with Trust and professional regulatory body standards.
- Employ excellent verbal and written communication skills to promote multidisciplinary and inter-agency liaison and collaborative practice with a broad range of audiences, including other professionals and external assessment providers.
- Continuously evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the service through the use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures, and participate in service development.
- Maintain knowledge of current research and clinical developments, and participate in research and audit activities within the service.
- Experience of working with young people with emotional or mental health difficulties, or within a neurodevelopmental setting, is essential.
