This fixed-term opportunity is ideal for newly qualified Occupational Therapists looking to gain valuable experience, Band 5 OTs seeking progression, or clinicians interested in exploring a new specialty within mental health. We welcome applications from OTs of all backgrounds who are passionate about delivering person-centred, occupation-focused care.

Parklands Hospital is a recovery-focused inpatient service covering Acute, Ministry of Defence, Older Persons Mental Health, and Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) services. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, supporting individuals on their recovery journey through meaningful therapeutic interventions, assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning.

The role offers opportunities to contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and the support of students and colleagues. You will be encouraged to develop specialist skills in mental health practice while receiving guidance from an experienced and supportive team.

Main duties of the job

*To select and apply Occupational Therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, empowering the service user in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.

*To carry out core assessments and risk assessments for clients newly screened to the team.

*To work with service users to identify Occupational Therapy goals as part of the overall care plan, using specialist mental health and Occupational Therapy assessment tools. Including review of the effectiveness of clinical care provided ensuring that patient safety is maintained and care delivery meets the standards required by the Trust and the Care Quality Commission

*To manage a caseload of service users with complex mental health needs, including evaluating screened patients for interventions and priorities for treatment.

*To plan and implement person centred individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with the service user, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.

*To actively participate in discharge planning, supporting carers and service users to successfully transition home.

*To demonstrate and apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability, provide training, and advise on lifestyles changes and adaptations to the service users social and physical environment.

*To assess the occupational needs of a defined client group and establish and evaluate appropriate treatment programmes.
