Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Support Worker to join our friendly and supportive therapy team within the Community Respiratory Service at Breathing Space.
The post is 33.45 hours over five days, with a working pattern of 8:30am4:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8:30am12:15pm on Wednesday.
You will play an important role within our multidisciplinary team, working with and alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and nursing colleagues across the wider Community Respiratory Service.
The role offers a varied and rewarding workload, including pulmonary rehabilitation, assessment clinics, observation clinics, venepuncture and home visits, providing opportunities to support patients at different stages of their respiratory care.
Our aim is to maximise patients independence, function and confidence in managing their respiratory conditions, while supporting them to remain active and engaged in their own health and wellbeing.
NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent is essential. Please also refer to the Personal Specification within the job description.
Experience of working within community or acute hospital therapy teams would be desirable.
Applicants must hold a valid work permit or be eligible to work within the UK.
Main duties of the job
Supporting clinical assessments and pulmonary rehabilitation, including recording observations such as BP, oxygen levels, FeNO, height and weight.
Recognising and escalating abnormal observations or signs of deterioration to senior colleagues.
Supporting patients with complex respiratory needs, using empathy, encouragement and effective communication to help them achieve their goals.
Working independently, including lone working in patients homes and community settings, while contributing to the wider multidisciplinary team.
Safely using, maintaining and monitoring clinical and exercise equipment, including stock management and ordering.
Setting up and moving equipment safely, including gym equipment and oxygen cylinders.
Completing accurate patient records, data entry and administrative duties.
Maintaining competencies through training, supervision and continued professional development.
Travelling between community locations across the borough as required.
Supporting and motivating patients in an exercise-based environment, often working with people experiencing breathlessness, anxiety and complex or advanced respiratory conditions.
