Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 3 Nursing Support Worker to join our team on Admissions Unit based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

We are a 14 bedded adult assessment and treatment ward providing person centred care for people suffering with mental health problems.

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the qualified to ensure that a high standard of care is maintained across the unit, and be expected to demonstrate a genuine interest in this field of nursing, displaying excellent people skills such as communication. They will be expected to work as part of a team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality person-centred patient care.

Staff working within this environment are afforded the opportunity to experience diverse mental illnesses which effect those of working age.

Main duties of the job

Duties include :

• Works as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients/service users experiencing mental health needs in the community/home setting or inpatient services, with support and supervision provided by a registered healthcare professional
• Undertakes or supports personal care activities, daily living skills/tasks and clinical care duties with minimal support and supervision as delegated by a registered healthcare professional in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
• Supports the enhanced observation of patients who present as a high risk to themselves or others due to a mental health, cognitive or clinical condition
• Ensures the registered healthcare professional is regularly updated on the patients/client's condition and progress
• Ensures the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes.
• Contributes to the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff
• Delivers role in accordance with Health Board/Trust Values and Code of Conduct for HCSW's in Wales including maintaining physical, procedural and relational securit

The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements. This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. Whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isnt fluency, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means being able to communicate in Welsh during routine clinical situations, such as welcoming patients, discussing straightforward aspects of their care and answering routine questions.
