Tuesday: 8:00am 6:00pm

Thursday: 8:00am 6:00pm

Friday: 8:00am 6:00pm

There may be some flexibility around finishing times, which can be discussed with the successful candidate.

This is a permanent position, subject to successful completion of a probationary period.

Main duties of the job

Key Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have appropriate experience and competency in a range of Healthcare Assistant duties, including:

  • Phlebotomy
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Wound care and dressings
  • New patient health checks
  • Ear syringing
  • Health promotion and screening
  • Administration of influenza and vitamin B12 injections

Job description

JOB TITLE: HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Nurse Lead (Clinical); Practice Manager (Administration)

RESPONSIBLE FOR: n/a

JOB PURPOSE:

Working under the direct supervision of the Nurse Lead and Nursing team and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

27 hours per week

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To perform venepuncture for patients

2. ECG Recording and uploading on patient records

3. Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses to ensure specimens are ready for collection by the pathology service

4. Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

5. Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations and coil clinics.

6. Follow practice protocols eg infection control, health and safety, clinical waste.

7. Maintain and order drugs, immunisations, instruments and clinical supplies including stock rotation

8. To collect and send instruments to CSSD as per practice protocol.

9. To take and record blood pressure readings (but not to interpret) as requested by GPs/Nurses

10. To manage loan of blood pressure monitors to patients including loaning of equipment, recall of equipment, audits, average readings, clean monitors before loaning out.

11. To undertake simple dressings under the supervision of qualified nurses following local recommendations and using aseptic technique.

12. Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well being including undertaking height, weight and body mass measurements,

13. Following up of Long Term Condition patients within the annual reviews process, supported by the Nursing Team

14. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

15. Undertake audits as required, (with assistance from nursing team) eg clinical waste audit

16. To perform other clinical tasks as trained to meet the needs of the practice including ear syringing, spirometry.

17. Maintain confidentiality of information relating to patients, relatives, staff and the practice.

18. Chaperone duties as required

19. Record information and activities undertaken with patients and carers in an accurate and timely fashion on EMIS Web including entering accurate Read/Sno-med codes.

20. Administer influenza vaccinations and B12 injections under Practice protocols.

21. Work safely at all times in accordance with Legislative requirements and Practice Policy and Procedures.
