Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Physiotherapy Assistant to join our specialist 7-bed bariatric rehabilitation service at Ribble Court Care Home.

Working alongside our registered Physiotherapist, you will support the delivery of individual rehabilitation programmes designed to improve residents mobility, strength, function and independence, with the aim of enabling them to return home following their period of rehabilitation.

This is a hands-on role working with a small, defined caseload of seven bariatric residents with complex rehabilitation needs.

Main duties of the job

About the role and Responsibilities:

• deliver rehabilitation and exercise programmes under the instruction of the Physiotherapist and in close collaboration with the nursing and care team;
• support residents with mobility, strengthening and functional activity;
• encourage and motivate residents to work towards their individual rehabilitation goals;
• observe, record and report residents progress or changes in presentation;

What are we looking for?

• Previous experience in a physiotherapy, rehabilitation or similar role is essential.
• Experience supporting people with complex mobility and rehabilitation needs.
• Bariatric rehabilitation experience would be advantageous, but is not essential.
• A relevant qualification, such as Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy or Rehabilitation, would be desirable.
• A positive, person-centred approach and the ability to engage and motivate residents who may face physical, psychological or emotional barriers to rehabilitation.
• Good communication, and confidence using digital care records system

Job description

To work alongside the registered Physiotherapist and wider care team to deliver safe, effective and person-centred rehabilitation to residents at Ribble Court, with a particular focus on bariatric residents with strengthening, mobility and rehabilitation needs.

The postholder will hold a recognised professional qualification in Physiotherapy; however, HCPC registration is not a requirement of this role, as the postholder will work under the clinical direction of the registered Physiotherapist.

The role will support the delivery of individual rehabilitation programmes developed and overseen by the Physiotherapist, including strengthening, mobility, functional exercises and interventions requiring two-person support. The postholder will monitor and record residents' participation and progress and promptly escalate changes or concerns to the registered Physiotherapist.

The registered Physiotherapist will retain responsibility for physiotherapy assessment, clinical decision-making, development and review of rehabilitation plans and the delegation of physiotherapy interventions.
