UHB are seeking an enthusiastic Paediatric nurse to join their busy Inpatient Unit at Heartlands Hospital.

We are keen to recruit an experienced nurse who is looking to develop their professional leadership and clinical skills within general paediatrics. UHB have a large, Paediatric service ran by a friendly, dynamic, talented team of professionals; we deliver high quality, compassionate care to the local community and beyond. We strive to provide a positive patient experience in a safe environment, and we actively promote a family centred approach in the delivery of care.

We operate a 24-hour, 7 day a week shift pattern but are willing to discuss flexible working if this is important for your work life balance and still meets the requirements of the service and role. This post is for 29 hours per week to cover maternity leave and ends 31.10.2027. It is a great development opportunity.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 nurse at UHB you will form part of an established nursing team, you will act as a senior, positive role model for your colleagues, demonstrate clinical competence and effective leadership skills. You will be responsible for coordinating shifts, allocating duties to junior staff members and ensuring patient safety is prioritised by communicating effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. The nurse is required to deputise for the senior sister, ensuring that clinical standards are maintained and that trust policies and procedures are adhered to. You will need to be confident or willing to learn how to solve problems, make decisions and escalate concerns appropriately.

You will deliver individualised, holistic care to a diverse population, acknowledging the needs of the patient and family. You must be skilled in communication so that you are able to fulfil this requirement effectively. As a band 6 you will be required to utilise your organisational skills to assess patient requirements, prioritise workload, allocate skill mix and support all members of the nursing team. Working with the medical team you will ensure patients receive the care they need in an appropriate time scale. Children may have urgent critical care needs that require prompt action, you should be confident to respond to these situations and support the team.
