Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a clinical nurse endoscopist to join our team. This role is ideally suited to an experienced endoscopist who will join a supportive team of nurse endoscopists, Consultants and Clinical Nurse Specialists in the Colorectal Surgery team at Northumbria Healthcare. This is an exciting and varied role with the expectation that the appointed candidate is Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Scopist trained.

Main duties of the job

• The post holder will be required to work in a variety of areas; primarily endoscopy and outpatients on a Trust wide basis.
• Provide Trust wide outpatient clinics for cancer / benign patients agreed in the job plan. A variety of patient contacts are required, which will include face to face and telephone advice
• The post holder is expected to provide Trust wide cover for colleagues for services within their own clinical expertise.
• Required to work closely with the MDT.
• To contribute to provision of core specialist endoscopists training to nurses and medical staff (within Joint Advisory Group for Endoscopy Training (JAG) guidelines).

The appointed individual will support the 2ww cancer pathway in Colorectal Surgery by accepting, triaging and directing referrals to the appropriate first face to face contact, supporting with follow up scans / biopsies etc and navigating patients through the pathway.

It is essential to have knowledge of Faster Diagnosis Standards, letters and documentation and supporting patients into treatment regimes where appropriate. There are opportunities to deliver training in the endoscopy and non endoscopy parts of the role.
