Job summary

We are excited to offer an opportunity for two Salaried GPs to join our friendly, highly supportive inner-city GP training practice. We have up to 8 sessions per week available across the two posts and are happy to be flexible about how these sessions are divided to suit the right candidates.

You will join an established clinical team where you will never feel isolated. Senior, experienced GPs are available in person every day for advice and support, alongside an extensive multidisciplinary team. We offer a genuinely supportive working environment, capped medicine management and Docman workload, dedicated learning opportunities, pro rata study leave. Our commissioned home visiting service means salaried GPs very rarely undertake home visits, other than occasional palliative care visits.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will provide high-quality, patient-centred general medical care to our diverse inner-city population, managing a broad range of acute presentations, long-term conditions and ongoing health needs.

Clinical sessions consist of 15 appointments, with a mix of face-to-face and telephone consultations. Standard appointments are 10 minutes, with 20-minute appointments provided where an interpreter is required. We actively encourage continuity of care, with opportunities for GPs to manage and follow up their own patients and develop meaningful ongoing clinical relationships.

You will work closely with our experienced GP and multidisciplinary team, with senior GPs available in person every day for clinical advice and support. We have three full-time, in-house pharmacists who provide medication reconciliation, medication reviews and ongoing medicines support for patients and clinicians.

Salaried GPs have capped medicine management and Docman correspondence workloads. Home visits are very rare due to our commissioned home visiting service, although occasional visits may be required for palliative care patients.

We want our GPs to have the autonomy, support and team around them to provide excellent care safely and sustainably.

Salaried General Practitioner

About the role

We are looking to recruit two enthusiastic and patient focused Salaried GPs to join our established inner city GP training practice

Up to eight sessions per week are available in total across the two posts and we are happy to discuss how these sessions are divided between the successful candidates

We recognise that sustainable general practice depends on clinicians having a manageable workload good administrative and multidisciplinary support and easy access to experienced colleagues

Our aim is to provide an environment where GPs can concentrate on delivering excellent patient care while continuing to develop professionally

Clinical responsibilities

The post holder will provide high quality general medical services to our registered population of approximately fourteen thousand patients

The role includes assessing diagnosing and managing patients presenting with acute and chronic health problems

Clinical sessions consist of fifteen appointments with a mixture of face to face and telephone consultations

Standard consultations are ten minutes with twenty minute appointments provided where an interpreter is required

The post holder will prescribe safely and appropriately in accordance with local and national guidance

The role includes reviewing investigation results arranging appropriate follow up and referring patients to secondary care and community services where clinically appropriate

The post holder will provide preventative care health promotion and management of long term conditions

Accurate and contemporaneous clinical records must be maintained

We encourage continuity of care and provide opportunities for our GPs to manage and follow up their own patients where appropriate allowing meaningful ongoing clinical relationships to develop

The post holder will work collaboratively with the wider clinical and multidisciplinary team and participate in clinical meetings significant event reviews quality improvement and other practice activities where appropriate

Home visits

Routine home visiting is provided through a commissioned home visiting service

As a result home visits for our Salaried GPs are very rare

There may occasionally be circumstances where a GP visit is appropriate particularly for patients receiving palliative or end of life care

Medicines and pharmacy support

We have three full time pharmacists working in house as an integral part of the practice team

Our pharmacists provide extensive medicines support including medication reconciliation medication reviews and ongoing support for patients with medicines related needs

They also provide an accessible source of advice and support for clinicians helping to reduce unnecessary medicines related administrative workload for GPs

Salaried GPs have a capped medicine management workload to support safe and sustainable working

Correspondence and administrative support

We recognise that administrative workload can have a significant impact on a GP's working day and have invested in systems to support our clinicians

Salaried GPs have a capped Docman correspondence workload

The practice uses Docman AI to support the management and workflow of clinical correspondence

We also use Lexacom Echo digital dictation to support efficient creation of referral letters and other clinical correspondence

These systems are complemented by an experienced administrative team and our in house pharmacy service

Clinical support and supervision

We are a GP training practice with an established culture of supervision education and shared learning

Senior and experienced GPs are available in person every working day so advice and clinical support are readily accessible

We welcome both experienced and newly qualified GPs and will tailor support according to individual experience and development needs

Our clinicians meet every day after morning clinics for coffee and for those who wish table tennis

This is an important part of our practice culture and provides regular time to debrief discuss difficult or interesting cases ask colleagues for advice and provide informal peer support

Multidisciplinary working

The successful candidates will become part of a large and well established clinical team

Our team includes three full time GP Partners five Salaried GPs and six GP trainees

Our wider clinical team includes three full time in house pharmacists one Advanced Nurse Practitioner one Physician Associate one Practice Nurse one Nursing Associate and one Mental Health Practitioner

Our multidisciplinary model enables patients to be directed to the most appropriate professional and gives GPs ready access to colleagues with different areas of expertise

The post holder will be encouraged to participate in practice learning opportunities and continuing professional development

Pro rata study leave is provided

There are regular opportunities for informal case discussion peer learning and learning alongside our GP trainees and wider clinical team

Clinical governance and patient safety

The post holder will work in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice and relevant professional standards

The post holder must maintain appropriate GMC registration and inclusion on the NHS England Performers List

The post holder will maintain appropriate continuing professional development and participate in annual appraisal and revalidation requirements

The post holder will work within practice safeguarding prescribing infection prevention information governance and patient safety policies

The post holder will participate appropriately in significant event analysis complaints learning events and quality improvement

Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times

The post holder will recognise and report patient safety concerns and incidents appropriately and maintain awareness of local and national clinical guidance relevant to general practice

Our patient population

We care for approximately fourteen thousand patients from a broad range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds

Working in our practice provides the opportunity to experience the full breadth of modern general practice and make a meaningful contribution to the health of a diverse inner city community

We frequently care for patients for whom English is not their first language

We recognise that good communication takes time and therefore provide twenty minute appointments where an interpreter is required

What we offer

We offer flexible allocation of up to eight sessions across the two available posts

Salary is ten thousand five hundred pounds per session per annum pro rata

Each clinical session has fifteen appointments

About us

We are a friendly, established inner-city GP training practice caring for approximately 14,000 patients from a diverse community. We are proud of our strong team culture, supportive working environment and commitment to providing excellent patient care.

Our clinical team includes 3 full-time GP Partners, 5 Salaried GPs and 6 GP trainees, supported by a comprehensive multidisciplinary team including 3 full-time in-house pharmacists, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner, a Physician Associate, Practice Nurse, Nursing Associate, Mental Health Practitioner.

Although we are a busy practice, nobody works in isolation. Senior, experienced GPs are available in person every day, and we place real importance on looking after and supporting one another. Our clinicians meet after morning clinics every day for coffee/table tennis providing protected time to debrief, discuss challenging cases, seek advice and provide informal peer support.

As a training practice, learning is part of our culture. We offer dedicated learning opportunities, pro rata study leave and a supportive environment where both newly qualified and experienced GPs can develop.
