Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Consultant in Complex Spine Surgery to join our expanding multidisciplinary spinal service based at The Royal London Hospital.
This is a substantive post with a particular focus on spinal trauma, including a Spinal Trauma Subspecialty Lead role and dedicated trauma clinics. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a consultant-led spinal trauma rota within one of the UK's busiest Major Trauma Centres.
Main duties of the job
You will join a large, collaborative team of orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal consultants delivering high-quality care across adult and paediatric populations. The service provides complex trauma, paediatric deformity, elective spinal surgery, and tertiary referrals across North East London.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive adult and paediatric emergency spinal surgery, including instrumented trauma, MSCC and spinal infections.
- Participate in the 1:9 24/7 Consultant-of-the-Week rota (Category A).
- Lead and develop spinal trauma pathways and governance.
- Deliver elective spinal surgery across Barts Health sites.
- Supervise trainees, fellows and extended scope practitioners.
- Contribute to MDTs, governance, service development and research activity.
