About the Role

We are seeking experienced Endoscopy Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) to join our team and support an Endoscopy service on the Isle of Wight.

This is a locum weekend opportunity, working Saturdays and Sundays, supporting patients throughout their endoscopy pathway. You will work closely with the nursing and clinical team to provide high-quality patient care before, during and after procedures, while helping to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the service.

Applicants must have a minimum of one year of Endoscopy HCA experience gained within the last year in a UK healthcare setting. This is an essential requirement for the role.

Travel and accommodation will be provided, with travel to the Isle of Wight likely to take place on Friday evenings.

Main duties of the job

The Endoscopy Healthcare Assistant (HCA) will support patients throughout their endoscopy journey, working closely with the nursing and clinical team. Main duties include preparing and admitting patients, taking baseline observations, assisting with patient positioning, chaperoning, supporting staff during procedures, preparing rooms between cases, transporting patients and providing basic care and observations during recovery.

As an Endoscopy Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Admitting and preparing patients for endoscopy procedures
• Checking patient documentation and completing baseline observations
• Chaperoning patients and maintaining their privacy, dignity and comfort
• Assisting with the safe positioning of patients for procedures
• Supporting Endoscopy Nurses and the wider clinical team during procedures, within your scope of practice
• Preparing procedure rooms and equipment between cases
• Cleaning and preparing patient trolleys between procedures
• Transporting and accompanying patients to and from procedure and recovery areas
• Supporting patients during recovery, including carrying out observations, providing refreshments and assisting with basic care
• Following infection prevention and control procedures
• Communicating effectively with patients and members of the multidisciplinary team
• Supporting the efficient and safe running of the Endoscopy service
