Job summary

We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and passionate Band 6 Occupational Therapist based at the inpatient learning disability unit at Townend Court, Hull. The successful candidate will work as part of the wider multidisciplinary team, providing assessments and treatments to adults with a learning disability, often with complex needs, who are admitted to the inpatient unit.

We are a well-established, small team of friendly, motivated, and committed individuals. You will receive regular individual supervision, CPD, training, and support within the role to help you transfer your existing skills and develop competencies in this specialist field.

This role will mainly be Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm. Some flexibility in working days and hours is negotiable, while maintaining a balance between service requirements and your work-life balance.

The successful candidate will be based on the Townend Court inpatient unit; however, they will also work across the Intensive Support Team (IST). The Townend Court Inpatient Unit and the IST work collaboratively, and the successful candidate will be pivotal in strengthening these working relationships.

This role provides the opportunity to develop skills and experience across two closely linked services while ensuring continuity of care for patients as they move through the Learning Disability Pathway. The role will also provide the opportunity to gain a wider understanding of the patient and family/carer journey.

Main duties of the job

• Manage a caseload of inpatient service users with complex needs, using evidence-based, client-centred principles.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions to enhance the quality of life for patients. Interventions will include psychosocial and physical health/equipment interventions, as well as more specialist interventions, such as the use of sensory-based approaches.
• Use standardised and non-standardised assessments to identify patients' care needs and inform intervention planning.
• Assess for and prescribe appropriate equipment and provide advice on moving and handling.
• Contribute to wider MDT working and interventions, including Positive Behaviour Support.
• Participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services. Provide outcome measures for the service and service users using agreed tools and assessments.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of Occupational Therapy services within the Trust. Ensure Occupational Therapy provision is delivered in accordance with HCPC and Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) requirements.
• Provide supervision and support to junior staff.
