Full & Part Time, Permanent Learning Support Assistants – The Avenue School

Looking for a job where you can really make a difference?

Join our warm, welcoming team and help transform the lives of children with special educational needs.

Due to our school’s expansion, we’re looking for new Learning Support Assistants to support our pupils in the classroom and out in the community.

Available roles

We have full time (Monday to Friday) and part time (Thursdays and Fridays) roles available starting ASAP.  The hours are 8.30 am to 3.15 pm, term time only plus INSET days

The full-time starting salary is £19,073.94 p.a. and the part-time starting salary is £7881.27 p.a.

About The Avenue School

We’re a vibrant, friendly SEN school supporting over 250 pupils aged 3 - 19 with a range of severe or profound learning difficulties, autism, and physical disabilities. We offer small, well-resourced classes and a truly inclusive approach to learning—both inside and outside the classroom.

What you’ll do

You’ll work in the classroom as part of a team, supporting children with their learning, care needs, communication and behaviour. You’ll help pupils achieve their potential, whether that’s reading a new word, exploring the local area, or just making them smile.

No two days are the same, and the work is as rewarding as it is varied.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for caring, patient, and enthusiastic people who are keen to support children with special educational needs. Experience is great, but not essential as full training is provided.

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

  • Calm, positive and resilient
  • A great team player with a sense of humour
  • Able to communicate clearly and confidently
  • Comfortable using basic ICT
  • Physically fit and ready to be hands on

Why work with us?

  • A friendly, supportive staff team
  • Term-time hours that fit around family life
  • Free access to our Employee Assistance Programme – counselling, GP line, physio and more
  • Paid well-being day after 1 years’ service
  • On-site parking and good public transport links
  • Social events, free tea/coffee, and paid staff lunches available
  • Pension scheme (including death in service)
  • Access to cycle scheme and Blue Light Card
  • Flu and Hep B jabs paid for
  • 5-day long service reward after 10 years’ service
