Job summary

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

In relation to Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker roles, we are currently able to recruit successfully from the domestic labour market and have a sufficient pool of suitably qualified and appointable candidates. As a result, visa sponsorship is not available for this role at this time. This position is kept under regular review and may change in the future should labour market conditions or service requirements alter.

Employers should note that visa applications are assessed against the Immigration Rules in force at the time of application. There is no guarantee that roles meeting current eligibility or salary thresholds will continue to do so in future

Important information for applicants: To ensure clarity of accountability, scope of practice and professional responsibilities, the Trust does not normally appoint individuals holding active NMC or HCPC registration into Band 2 Clinical/AHP Support Worker, Band 3 Senior Clinical/AHP Support Worker or Band 4 AHP Support Worker/Technician roles. Main duties of the job

The primary role of a Senior Clinical Support Worker is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the Registered Nurse and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to person-centred care.

The Senior Clinical Support Worker should actively contribute to the health and well-being of patients, staff and service users and be able to communicate effectively with sensitivity and compassion. They should be able to work independently within their sphere of nursing while under the supervision of registered nurses. Senior Clinical Support Workers should demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables them to undertake specific skills and tasks delegated by the registered nurse and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies at UHNM. They will be required to undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed as competent.

Key to this role is flexibility with the requirement for staff to work variable shifts over 5 days a week

Key Areas/Tasks

• It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process each year and with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment.
• Communicate and report any changes or information relating to the patient to the Registered Nurse.
• Communicate appropriately with patients and visitors to the Ward or Department.
• Always portraying a professional and respectful manner.
• To receive patients,visitorsand staff in a calm,friendlyand efficient manner
• Exchangesfactual informationwith patients using reassurance,tactand empathy.
• Overcome barriers to understanding for example, dealing with patients with physical or mental disabilities.
• Maintenance of computer and manual information systems.
• To request case notes and provide a tracing service.
• Occasionallyparticipatesin audits, surveys,researchand development activities.
• The post holder willbe requiredto undertake asappropriate anytraining packages relevant to the healthcare setting and do on-going training asdeterminedby the Trust and/or by their line manager.
• All new health care staffare required tocomplete both Corporate and Care Coach Induction within their first week of employment. .
• Have a duty to respond and report patients conditionin a timely manner. This will include judgements involving facts.
• Hold basic keyboard skills.
• Dexterity to undertake nursing care procedures asappropriate.
• Under direct or non-direct supervision of a Registered Nurse asdeemedappropriateand willassistwith all aspects of essential patient care.
• Provision of personal care to patients.
• Respects patient privacy and dignityat all times.
• Prepares equipment/s for medical and nursing staff to use during procedures.
• Assistmedical and nursing staff with procedures asrequired.
• Act as a chaperone, supporting patients undergoing examinations or procedures.
• Escort patients to other areas of the Trust as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Follows policies and mayparticipatein discussion on proposed changes to procedures.
• Demonstrates safe working practices in the use of equipment in the clinical area completion of mandatory training.
• Engages with individual training programs and local protocols, checks and cleans equipment/s.
• Under the direction and supervision of the sister / Charge nurse order stocks and supplies and ensure they are stored appropriately.
• Demonstrates their own duties to new starters and bank / agency staff.
• Adheres to Trust Standards of Dress policy.
• Completion of relevant patient documentation under direct or non-direct supervision of a Registered Nurse asdeemedappropriate.
• Will have a delegated workload within the remit of their capabilities.
• Turns,maneuverspatients for toileting, and bathing usingappropriate aids.
• Concentrates on personal care duties and can follow a routine.
• Care of terminally ill patients and supportsin the event ofa patients death.
• The post holder may be exposed to bodily fluids.
• Support and Assist New Staff- Buddy System/Care Certificate Supervisor (Training available via ESR)
• Health & Safety
• The post holder is expected to ensure a healthy and safe environmentexists in all departments at all times. She/he is expected to take reasonable care of her/his acts or omissions. The Trust policies and statutory regulations must be always adhered to.
• The post holderis required toobservethe ward/departmental procedures including sickness/absence reporting, dresscodeand annual leave booking.
