We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant to join our Substance Misuse team at HMP Winchester, a category B prison located in Winchester.

HMP Winchester is a busy male prison with a capacity for 690 inmates. We are recruiting for a Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant to support the wider healthcare and substance misuse team with brief interventions on risks and harm minimisation following instances of illicit use on wings, Naloxone Education for those not engaging with the service and other substance misuse duties. You will need prior substance misuse experience for this role.

Hours

37.5 hours per week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 0800 - 1600 Salary

This position is full time, youll receive an annual salary up to £31,789 per annum per annum.

Main duties of the job

As a Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. You will

• Support Substance Use Nurses in daily clinics
• NHS Health Checks, Bloods, Urine Drug Screens, POCTS
• Completing patient paperwork to record on the National Drug Tracking Monitoring Systems (NDTMS)
• Attend and document daily handovers
• Provide outstanding evidence-based case to our patients living with Drug and Alcohol addictions seeking out, listening to and acting on their feedback so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them.
• You will contribute to and implement care packages, assist with health promotion and wellbeing events.
• Acting as 2nd Signature when needed
• Giving/collecting SMART (recovery groups)feedback forms and supporting to collect patients for SMART
• Seeing patients after court returns to confirm any future court dates
• Willingness to learn SMART recovery to facilitate groups when needed

Qualifications required

• NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent in Health and Social Care
• Experience or knowledge of Substance Misuse.
• A non-judgmental and compassionate approach
• Excellent communication skills
• Good IT skills and IT literacy
• Ability to work within a busy environment
• Ability to work unsupervised whilst following policy and procedures

Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment
