In partnership with parents and the community, the Governing Body of Newport High School is seeking a visionary and inspirational Head Teacher to lead our happy and vibrant school on a secondment basis until 31 August 2026, with an opportunity for extension, if required.

Newport High School is an English-medium, community-maintained school which provides education for children aged between 11 and 18 years and are proud to serve the diverse geographical areas of Bettws, Brynglas, Crindau and Malpas. We are looking for an inspirational Head Teacher who will thrive on the opportunity of being instrumental in the leadership of Newport High School.

• Is an excellent team worker, who is able to inspire and work alongside other senior leaders.
• Has an excellent track record of developing leadership at all levels ensuring capacity and succession planning is central to School Development Planning.
• Has proven ability to lead, challenge and empower learners and professional colleagues through effective school self-evaluation and improvement processes, translating identified priorities into successful and sustained change.
• Has resilience, energy, flexibility and enthusiasm.
• Recognises and implements highly effective engagement with our learners parents and carers, working to achieve effective relationships.
• Will work alongside the Governing Body and local authority to ensure there is a two-way flow of open and honest communication and governance.

As this is a secondment opportunity, the Governing Body will accept applications from existing Deputy Head Teachers who do not yet hold NPQH, however are working towards completion.

- Dates for in person interviews at the School: Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd October 2026 (Successful candidates following day 1, will progress to day 2)
