Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Helyg provides Welsh-medium education for pupils in Blaenau Gwent. Situated on the outskirts of Brynmawr, the school offers modern spacious accommodation and excellent resources and is served by the A465 road network which ensures the area is commutable from Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and the wider Southeast Wales region. Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Helyg is an open, friendly school with a dedicated staff who work hard to create a positive, caring ethos. The schools mission statement is “Setting a firm foundation for a bright future”.
This School also hosts a seedling school provision, Ysgol Gymraeg Tredegar within the town of Tredegar in a purpose-built school. The provision currently hosts around 32 children and falls under the Governance of Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Helyg with a dedicated staff group and senior leader already in situ.
Governors are seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher that is an outstanding practitioner committed to developing teaching and learning of the highest quality. Someone who is committed to ensuring that the school provides the best opportunities for all our learners and plays an active role in the expansion and development of Welsh-medium education in Blaenau Gwent and the wider region.

- Can support and strengthen our Welsh-medium ethos, language and culture.
- Is resilient, adaptable and able to lead effectively through change.
- Will work in partnership with the Headteacher to drive the strategic development of the school and secure the best possible outcomes for all learners.
Governors will support the successful candidate in all aspects of school life; thereby creating a practice of effective learning and development throughout the school and its community.
