Job summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Salaried GP to join our dynamic team, covering both of our Beacon Health sites in Kensington and Mossley Hill. This role offers a unique opportunity to rotate across two different practices, providing exceptional patient care. The role involves the clinical supervision of Resident Doctors, including GP trainees and Foundation Year 2 doctors

We are looking for 6 sessions, with a start date of early January 2027, but flexible for the right candidate

This post is fixed term for 12 months with a view to a permanent contract thereafter.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a variety of duties governed by the GMS contract and objectives of Enhanced services including:

• In person consultations
• Telephone consultations
• Visiting patients at home and in our nursing home
• Checking and signing repeat prescriptions
• Dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence as required
• Clinical administration
• 2 sessions (1 day) of on call duties. This includes direct clinical supervision of trainees

Job description

• Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
• Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
• Cover all the clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate.
• Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols as well wider guidance such as that from NICE.
• Ensure appropriate follow up of patients.
• Record clear and contemporaneous computerised consultation notes to agreed standards.
• Participate in clinical audits, learning event analyses and practice meetings.
• Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions avoiding hand-written prescriptions.
• Prescribe generically whenever appropriately and in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary, Pan Mersey guidance, NICE guidance and Good Prescribing Practice (as defined by British National Formulary).
• Work with and provide support for other members of the primary health care team.
• Play a lead role in the practice achieving agreed and other key performance indicator targets
• Supervise a range of trainees including medical students, FY2s and STs
• Be point of contact during on-call sessions
• Undertake continual personal and professional development, taking an active part in reviewing and developing the role and responsibilities, and provide evidence of learning activity as required.
• Adhere to organisational policies and procedures, including confidentiality, safeguarding, lone working, information governance, equality, diversity and inclusion training and health and safety.
• Establish strong working relationships with GPs and practice teams and work collaboratively with other staff of the multi-disciplinary team, supporting each other, respecting each others views and meeting regularly as a team.
• Demonstrate a flexible attitude and be prepared to carry out other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time within the general character of the post or the level of responsibility of the role, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner.
• Contribute to the wider aims and objectives of the Practice to improve and support primary care.

Beacon Health consists of two GP training practices in Liverpool, one in Kensington and one in Mossley Hill. Both are active members of two Primary Care Networks. We have a patient list size of around 12,000 patients.

We have a well-developed team which includes Clinical Pharmacists, Community Paramedics, First Contact Physiotherapists and experienced Mental Health Practitioners, as well as GP trainees and Foundation year 2 Doctors. We also host Medical Student GP placements from the University of Liverpool and Edge Hill University.
