Band 7 Mobility Clinician (HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist)

Full Time (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday)

Fixed Term 24-months

North East Drive Mobility (NEDM) are keen to invite applications from qualified, HCPC registered, healthcare professionals (OT or Physiotherapy) who are interested in the challenge of a role in a specialist clinical service.

NEDM is part of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation Trust and is jointly funded by theIntegrated Care Board and the Department for Transport (DfT). NEDM is part of the national coverage of Mobility Centres accredited by Driving Mobility*. Our main centre is based at Walkergate Park Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, with outreach services located in Cumbria and Teesside.

Car driver (full licence holder) is essential to the role and should be confirmed at point of application.

*Driving Mobility is the UK wide network of Mobility Centres providing assessment, advice and information on all aspects of personal mobility. Driving Mobility is the umbrella organisation for all Accredited Mobility Centres. It ensures that there are common standards, promotes good practice, offers training and education, and works closely with organisations such as the Department for Transport, the DVLA, Motability, police and varied healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

Assessment of fitness to drive and passenger assessment are dynamic and evolving fields which require a commitment to professional excellence, a proven record of continued professional development, as well as an ambition to develop your career within a specialist clinical service.

Based at Walkergate Park Hospital in Newcastle and working flexibly between our outreach bases in Carlisle and Teesside 1-2 times per week, this is an opportunity to become part of a busy, specialist assessment team. You will also be trained to conduct specialist passenger/access, in-car safety, and powered wheelchair/mobility scooter assessments as you develop into your role.

You will have an ability to communicate effectively with service users, health professionals and major stakeholders including DVLA, Motability and the police, as well as having a passion for developing services in line with service user and stakeholder needs.

You will be able to apply your clinical expertise to assess practical function during on-road assessment whilst accompanied by an Approved Driving Instructor. You will ideally have experience of working with a range of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions and will be able to deliver critical recommendations to clients related to their driving ability.

An induction period is provided with ongoing workplace training to support your professional development in this specialist role. You will be required to complete the new on-line Driving Mobility Education Programme (previously the Oxford Brookes post-graduate certificate in Driving Assessment and Outdoor Mobility in the job description) which is funded by Driving Mobility.
