Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 5 Staff Nurse (37.5 hrs per week) to join our friendly and dynamic Endoscopy Team at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College [MA1] Healthcare NHS Trust.

You will play a key role in delivering safe, high-quality, and person-centred care to patients undergoing a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills in areas such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, EUS, ERCP, and bronchoscopy, working within a supportive and highly skilled multidisciplinary team.

Previous Endoscopy experience is not essential, as full training and support will be provided. However, applicants with experience in post-anaesthetic care, recovery nursing, day surgery, theatres, critical care, acute medicine, or surgical wards are particularly encouraged to apply, as these skills are highly transferable to the Endoscopy environment.

You will receive a comprehensive induction, structured training programme, and mentorship to develop your confidence and competence within our JAG-accredited Endoscopy Unit. Opportunities will also be available to undertake further specialist training and professional development.

Main duties of the job

• As a Band 5 Staff Nurse within the Endoscopy Unit, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, safe, and compassionate care to patients throughout their endoscopy journey, from admission and preparation through to recovery and discharge. You will work closely with consultants, nurses, healthcare support workers, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure an excellent patient experience and positive clinical outcomes.
• Your duties will include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, monitoring patients receiving sedation, and providing post-procedure recovery care. You will be expected to recognise and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition, maintain accurate documentation, and contribute to a safe and effective clinical environment.
• Previous Endoscopy experience is not essential; however, experience in a recovery, theatre, day surgery, acute care, or critical care setting would be highly advantageous.
• Experience caring for patients following sedation or anaesthesia will be particularly valuable as recovery nursing is an integral part of the Endoscopy patient pathway.
