Dietetic support worker - Metabolic/ketogenic (20.5 hours for 1 year)

Are you interested in working with children & families? We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a dietetic support worker. Working within two different specialties to support children with complex disorders requiring specialist dietary treatment. This is a fixed term post for a year to cover maternity leave.

The post holder will provide practical support for patients including menu planning/food education and admin support to enable families to follow their specialist diets to achieve the best outcome possible. This would involve providing both telephone and face to face contact with families and carrying out administrative duties to support the Dietitians in the smooth running of the service. At times you would also be expected to cover general admin duties for the department.

You will be supported by a team of experienced Paediatric Dietitians and Dietetic Assistant Practitioners. If you have the skills and experience required, please contact us for more information.

Ideally the hours should be worked over 4-5 days. Applicants must be able to attend face to face interviews which will be held at Alder Hey.

Main duties of the job

Main duties

• To provide practical support to optimise the dietetic management of patients following complex specialist diets for the treatment of epilepsy and inherited metabolic disorders.
• To support families with the management of complex diets as out-patients and sometimes in-patients, through recipe development, menu planning, food education and use of web-based support programs
• To liaise with providers of specialist prescription products to ensure that prescription management of prescribable products is accurate and cost effective.
• To undertake administrative and clerical duties needed to maintain good organisation of these specialist services.

We are a team of over 20 dietitians and 3 assistants and provide dietetic care across the majority of paediatric sub-specialities. We are well respected across the Trust for our commitment to clinical dietetics and nutrition support and have excellent multi-disciplinary teams. We are a very supportive team and take seriously the development of paediatric dietitians. In addition to learning through clinical caseload management and clinical supervision there are wide ranging learning opportunities across the Trust and participation in the Masters programme in paediatric dietetics will be actively encouraged. We also have P1 and 2 placement students and there will be opportunities to be involved in their supervision.
