This is a full-time (part-time at minimum of 60% FTE will be considered), fixed term position for 3 years.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Medical Statistician based at the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit (OCTRU) within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS) at the University of Oxford. The OCTRU Statistics Team, led by Professor Jonathan Cook, is looking for an experienced medical statistician to join the Senior Management Team. Working under the supervision of a Lead Statistician, the post-holder will contribute to the design, conduct, analysis and presentation of results of collaborative clinical research projects, mostly randomised clinical trials, across the different clinicals areas. OCTRU is one of the largest academic clinical trials unit in the UK (www.octru.ox.ac.uk). It undertakes trials of all phases across oncology, surgery, experimental medicine, orthopaedics and rheumatology.

About the Role

In this role, you will lead, or undertake the senior statistical role in, the analysis of large and complex data that have been collected or are currently being collected by trials on the OCTRU portfolio https://www.ndorms.ox.ac.uk/octru/trials-portfolio as well as provide written statistical input into protocols and ethics committee submissions. You will also assist in and sometimes leading the development and submission of grant proposals to major national and international agencies, including industry, charities, research councils and the government. You will prepare and/or approve statistical analysis plans (SAP) where appropriate and the preparation of statistical programs for analysis of study data. Furthermore, the post-holder will play a key role in quality assurance within the OCTRU Statistics Team.

You will be expected to be able to work independently and supervisor more junior staff on project work. The post is based at the Botnar Institute for Musculoskeletal Sciences. A pattern of hybrid working (involving part office, part remote location) will be possible with the agreement of your line manager.

About You

You must hold a postgraduate degree in medical statistics (or near to completion) or have equivalent experience and have specialist knowledge in analysis of complex and longitudinal data. You must have considerable experience working as a statistician, including statistical consulting, designing clinical research, contributing to grant applications, active running of research, analysing data and paper writing for peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, you will have a high level of proficiency in statistical programming in Stata and/or R. Experience of working with and supervising early career statisticians, as well as experience of working within a UKCRC clinical trials unit, is desirable.

£49,119 to £58,265 per annum: Grade 8. This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year.
