Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Law and TechnologyUniversity

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join our Law School as an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer in Law and Technology. The successful candidate will play a leading role in advancing research and/or teaching on digital innovation and emerging technologies in Law and/or legal practice at a time when we are undergoing a transformation of our undergraduate and graduate teaching programmes.

This post is open to both those with a research background and to those with a legal practice or teaching and learning background but with a particular expertise in Law and Technology. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will contribute to enhancing our student experience and employability strategy, to developing and teaching courses related to Law and Technology, and to developing our research culture or legal practice-oriented and legal skills teaching. This role would involve joining the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics Network (AIDAN) Committee, representing the School and strengthening connections between AIDAN and its research on the legal, ethical and regulatory dimensions of artificial intelligence and data analytics. This role will promote interdisciplinary collaboration across the University and support the development of joint research projects.

Those applying with legal practice or teaching and learning experience will be working closely with our co-curricular leads to advance extensive professional networks, support students in cultivating their practice related skills, and identify opportunities for the growth and development of co-curricular activities. You will be expected to organise events and enhancement activities, as well as contribute to teaching on at least one module as outlined below. We are particularly keen to employ individuals with a working knowledge of legal tech and the use of AI in legal practice. The role offers the chance to develop and progress in the education and student experience promotion pathway as part of a highly motivated and supportive team. This post will be particularly attractive to individuals with experience of legal practice who are seeking to progress their careers in higher education, or academics with a desire to enhance their career through a focus on co-curricular activities and teaching and learning.

Those applying with research experience will be required to undertake high quality personal research and other forms of scholarly activity, including seeking external funding for research and developing the impact of your research.

Associate Professor Applicants

Candidates for the Associate Professorship role should have a PhD in Law or equivalent legal practice or academic experience; experience of initiating, developing and delivering high quality research and publications of international standing or equivalent professional activity; and experience of working effectively as part of a team to develop, manage and deliver academic programmes or equivalent professional experience. Those applying with a legal practice background will need to demonstrate an ability to teach and lead on the development of Law and Technology modules drawing on real-world professional experience to ground academic insight. Those applying with a research background will need to demonstrate a high level of engagement with research in the area of Law and Technology.

Senior Lecturer Applicants

Candidates applying at senior lecturer level should have a PhD or equivalent legal practice or academic experience; significant experience of teaching, mentoring, administration and leadership; and have an established record of high-quality research outputs, knowledge exchange or equivalent professional activity.
