The Portering Supervisor / Working Porter is responsible for the delivery and day-to-day supervision of portering services across designated sites. The post holder will lead by example through active participation in portering duties while supervising the portering team to ensure safe, timely and efficient movement of patients, equipment, materials, waste, linen, mail and supplies. The post holder will contribute to service resilience by coordinating portering resources during periods of increased demand, unplanned events and emergency situations.
The post holder will be expected to work as part of the wider Facilities team, providing an integrated and flexible service, and as such may sometimes be required to undertake duties within other areas of the Facilities Services Department should the needs of the service demand it. This will include providing supervisory support and advice to teams within other disciplines should the need arise.
Main duties of the job
Service delivery and operational management
1. Ensure that a comfortable and safe service user/client environment is provided at all times
2. Undertake additional reasonable duties consistent with the role to support service continuity, including emergency response and incidental support to service users.
3. Liaise with other Facilities services on site to co-ordinate activity.
4. To be the point of contact on each site for portering services.
5. All directorate staff will be required to act, up, down and across (within own capabilities and training) as required to ensure that an efficient and professional service is delivered at all times throughout the Directorate and the Trust
6. Supporting the Apprenticeship programme for Portering Services
7. Day to day supervision and a practical training of other team members
