Job summary
The Professional Development Nurse will work in collaboration with the Clinical Service Lead, Clinical Leads, Team leaders and multidisciplinary staff in providing professional support and advice for regular review of Trust policies and standards in relation to practice.
Main duties of the job
Establish and maintain exemplary working relationships with broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including commissioners, Public Health, ICBs and the acute sector, Pre Registration Students, SCPHN Students
Research, evaluate, plan and implement new ways of working and resource utilisation, in conjunction with clinical and non-clinical staff, service users and partner agencies.
Maintain a high level of current research awareness and developments in the field of public health and in the wider profession.
Implement changes based on research findings when appropriate. Develop skills for presentation and publication. Participate in relevant working groups to provide clinical expertise and support in relation to children and young people's 0-19 Services. This may include (but is not limited to) clinical innovation, use of technology, local regeneration projects and safeguarding. Ensure all staff are aware of their responsibilities towards quality-of-service provision and patient care and understand their contribution towards enhancing the standards of care and service, within allocated resources and established protocols.Responsible for facilitating the evidence-based assessment of care needs of babies, children and adolescents, and the development of programmes of care in relation to the needs of the child and family.The role will be 60% Professional Development Lead and 40% Clinical Work , client facing.

The role will be 60% Professional Development Lead and 40% Clinical Work , client facing. Maintain a defined clinical workload, providing direct client care within their professional scope of practice.
To maintain own levels of clinical competence and knowledge relevant to their role Undertake comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. Operational and administrative duties Utilise educational evaluations to commission the most cost-effective learning opportunities for units/departments staff. Monitor expenditure and the use of resources for training and development and make recommendations for future expenditure. Maintain own records of sickness, absence, annual leave and study leave in accordance with Trust Policy. Respond promptly to emerging clinical needs, complaints, and incidents and develop and participate in appropriate action plans in line with clinical governance. Leadership and Management Responsibilities (if relevant) To standardise and oversee local inductions for new staff members and ensure all processes are uniform across the service. Support the team leaders with line management for skill mixed teams, including supervision, appraisal and supporting clinical practice on request. Facilitate staff to competently undertake health promotion and disease prevention including the review of educational resources needed. Proactively promote understanding and knowledge of diverse needs of babies, children and families from different ethnic backgrounds. Facilitate and participate in research projects and use findings to change practice where appropriate. Together with Team leaders participate in recruitment and selection process of staff. Incorporate, promote and engage in Public Participation Initiatives within the service Manage own workload and projects. Handle complaints, accidents and incidents as required or instructed, in accordance with Trust policies. Ensure patient confidentiality is always maintained. In conjunction with Team Leads help to orientate new staff to their duties ensuring local and individual needs are met. Lead on Policies and SOPs, updating and developing of local process Lead on NICE Guidelines and clinical effectives. Advertise and recruit SCPHNS and Support SCPHN Students To work in partnership with local further and higher education institutions/providers to maintain their knowledge of clinical/workforce educational requirements. Service and Policy Development Maintain an appropriate level of clinical visibility and involvement within the service and initiate or participate in research projects that are discussed and agreed. Represent the Divisional and Trust as requested at senior lead and expert for the 0-19 Service in multi-professional and leadership forums, both internally and externally. Use drive, persuasion, expertise and positive communication skills in securing appropriate support from key stakeholders. Support staff in identifying and setting standards/quality of care and assisting teams in the development or implementation of assessment tools to evaluate the care given. To support the implementation of new policies, procedures, guidelines and systems within service area to maintain compliance with National Best Practice Standards and Guidance as required. Influence policy, propose and implement changes in practice at local and organisational level. Participate in Service Reviews as requested. Provide regular reports on development projects and associated outcomes, as appropriate to Service Lead, clinical Leads and colleagues from external organisations. Have awareness of Trust policies and procedures and participate in the development of new policies and guidelines as required. Participate in Task and Finish Groups to ensure the development and monitoring of practice within the Trust. Participate in quality initiatives and audit as requested by Service Lead and Clinical Leads. Ensure all staff comply with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines, taking remedial actions where this is not the case. Information Management Be able to interpret and triangulate quality and performance data (e.g. dashboards, audit, risk management, incident reporting, complaints, to determine quality assurance and implement any necessary changes to clinical practice to maintain a safe and effective service. Maintain accurate, comprehensive, contemporaneous records and reports using the appropriate record keeping system. Research and Development (if relevant) Lead the implementation of relevant new research-based practice and encourage and facilitate active participation in research projects. Actively encourage the use of clinical information and standards to improve the quality of patient care, as required to meet required quality assurance and scrutiny. Incorporate relevant research findings with practice and participate in RF Trust approved research programmes. Financial Responsibility (if applicable) All staff are responsible for the security of the property of the organisation, avoiding loss or damage of property, and being economical and efficient in the use of resources. To ensure the effective use and deployment of staff in delivering services. Education and Professional Development Contribute to the development of newly qualified staff and be involved in the preceptorship programme. Deliver educational programmes in relation to Clinical Practice and Professional Development to support service delivery. Work in collaboration with colleagues to identify their training and development needs, monitoring their progress and evaluating their effectiveness. Establish and maintain in-service education and professional development programmes and participate in teaching to share knowledge and expertise. Fulfil the role of Clinical Supervisor and develop a robust system of clinical supervision and reflective practice for the 0-19 service. Liaise with higher education institute to access appropriate education and training programmes. Facilitate and promote the department as a suitable learning environment for new members of staff and Learners. To critically reflect on own performance through clinical supervision, coaching or mentoring. Effort and Environment Frequent requirement for attending relevant meetings. Based in an office environment with long periods of concentrating, providing staff support and training and producing reports.
