Job summary
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics.
The post-holder will work within our Community Paediatrics Service, working closely with colleagues in the NCIC Community Children's Services, Primary Care, Local Authorities and Acute Paediatrics services in Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven. Close links are built between NCIC, Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) and Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust in relation to children with mental health problems and learning difficulties.
NCIC is the only countywide provider of community health services in Cumbria and sees more than a fifth of the population in any one year. We provide local NHS services including community hospitals, countywide services in diabetes and neurology and community services such as district nursing, health visiting, dentistry, podiatry, learning disability and mental health services as well as children's service.
The job plans are designed for ten programmed activities (PA). However, part-time applications will be considered. Sessions will be allocated within the individual's job plan for the development of specialist interest and training. An average of 1.5 PA sessions per week for full-time employees will be protected for supporting professional activities.
Main duties of the job
- The Specialty Doctor is responsible to the Consultants in Community Paediatrics. In his/her work, the jobholder liaises with other healthcare professionals within and outside of Community Paediatric team in day-to-day care for paediatric patients and their families.
- Assess, diagnose and manage children and young people with developmental, behavioral, neurodevelopmental, and complex health needs in community settings
- Run community paediatric clinics for developmental concerns, neurodisability and chronic health conditions under consultant supervision and within agreed competences.
- Contribute to neurodevelopmental assessments for autism spectrum disorder in line with current pathways.
- Undertake initial health assessments for looked after children and support care planning.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide medical advice and support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including contribution to educational health and care plans (EHCP)
- Maintain accurate clinical records, prepare reports, and contribute to statutory documentation and professional communication.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvements, and service developmental activities.
- Support teaching, supervision, and training of junior colleagues and contribute ti continuing professional development.
