Main duties of the job

The Dental Nurse will provide clinical and administrative support to dentists and oral/maxillofacial surgeons during surgical and dental procedures, ensuring patients receive safe, effective and high-quality care.

Job description

• Assist dentists, oral surgeons and clinicians during dental and surgical procedures.
• Prepare clinical rooms, surgical equipment and instruments before procedures.
• Prepare patients for treatment and provide appropriate support and reassurance.
• Assist with dental extractions and oral surgery procedures, including procedures under local or general anaesthetic where required.
• Act as a scrub nurse during surgical procedures where appropriately trained and competent.
• Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.
• Clean, disinfect and sterilise instruments and surgical equipment.
• Ensure clinical rooms are fully stocked and prepared for each list.
• Record and maintain accurate patient and clinical documentation.
• Follow all relevant health and safety, safeguarding and infection-control policies.
• Dispose of clinical and surgical waste safely and correctly.
• Provide appropriate post-operative support to patients.
• Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary dental and surgical team.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
