Job summary

We are looking for a medical summariser to join our team for 20 hours per week.

We are looking for someone that is able to use the Emis system and has done the role of summariser before.

The candidate we are looking for will be motivated and able to work under pressure. They must be able to work well on their own, but also be able to work as part of the larger team.

Main duties of the job

The role will be to review patients medical records and produce an accurate summary of the patients medical summary - ensuring that the appropriate read codes are added.

The role will also include:

  • Receiving the medical records into the surgery, ensuring that they are stored correctly
  • Recording immunisation details for each patient, as well as any other important information that needs to be coded
  • Scanning and filing paperwork/notes
  • Providing information where necessary to the clinical team
  • Dealing with documentation that arrives in the surgery via post and electronically

Medical Summariser

Reviewing medical records and producing an accurate summary of the patients medical history

Identification of items to be summarised from patient notes following practice protocol

Chronological Input of above identified items onto computer database (EMIS)

Chronological Input of written summaries onto computer database

To work in conjunction with the Practice Administrator, Data Administrator and General Practitioners

To undertake duties as may be determined from time to time commensurate with the range of activities described above

To observe the practice policy on maintaining confidentiality of information

Liaising with other practices to ensure all information is correct and identify where there may be missing data

Deal with incoming letters documents both electronically and on paper

Scanning documents where required, ensuring information is correct and added to the appropriate patient records

Provide admin support to other members of the team

To ensure coding is done correctly

About us

Our practice is a busy training practice that looks after around 12,500 patients across 2 sites as we have a smaller surgery at Barugh Green. However, the post holder will be based at Huddersfield Road Surgery.

We have a large practice team which includes 6 partners, 2 salaried GP's, 6 nurses including a lead nurse, the Practice Manager and Business Manager and then a mix of reception and admin staff.

We are looking for an experienced summariser that can take on the post due to our current post holder retiring
