Job summary
We are looking for a compassionate, enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse Associate to join our friendly and supportive clinical team on a full time, fixed-term 12-month contract to provide maternity cover. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a large, innovative GP training practice where high-quality patient care, teamwork and professional development are at the heart of everything we do.
As a valued member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in delivering safe, effective and patient-centred care to our diverse practice population. Working closely with GPs, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals, you will support the assessment, treatment and ongoing management of patients with both acute and long-term health needs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their skills across a broad range of clinical activities while contributing to the continuous improvement of services and helping to maintain the excellent standards of care for which Spring Gardens Medical Practice is known. Working within your scope of practice and under the guidance of registered clinicians, you will be supported to make a meaningful difference to the health and wellbeing of our patients every day.
Main duties of the job
Key duties include undertaking clinical procedures such as venepuncture, ECGs, wound care, health checks and basic observations, supporting the management of patients with long-term conditions, and assisting with vaccination and immunisation programmes where appropriately trained. The post-holder will provide health promotion advice, support patients in managing their health and wellbeing, maintain accurate clinical records using the practice's electronic patient record system, and contribute to quality improvement and infection prevention activities.
Working under the direction of registered nurses and GPs, the Nurse Associate will ensure care is delivered safely, effectively and compassionately while adhering to professional standards, practice policies and the NMC Code. The role requires excellent communication skills, a flexible approach and a commitment to delivering outstanding care.
Job description
Clinical Duties
Undertake clinical procedures within scope of practice, including:
Blood pressure monitoring
Venepuncture and phlebotomy
ECG recording
Dressings and wound care
Simple wound closure (where trained and competent)
Ear irrigation (where trained and competent)
Urinalysis and specimen collection
NHS Health Checks
Support chronic disease monitoring clinics, including diabetes, asthma, COPD and hypertension reviews.
Administer vaccinations and immunisations where appropriately trained and authorised.
Assist with cervical screening programmes where trained and competent.
Deliver health promotion and preventative healthcare advice to patients.
Recognise deterioration or safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately.
Contribute to infection prevention and control procedures.
Patient Care
- Provide compassionate, person-centred care to patients of all ages.
- Assist patients to understand and manage their health conditions.
- Promote patient independence and self-care where appropriate.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records using the practice clinical system.
- Manage clinical correspondence and follow-up tasks as delegated.
- Participate in audit activities and quality improvement initiatives.
Team Working
- Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists and administrative colleagues.
- Participate in clinical meetings and practice training sessions.
- Support the supervision and development of healthcare assistants where appropriate.
Governance and Compliance
Practice in accordance with:

- Safeguarding legislation and guidance

- Maintain professional registration and mandatory training requirements.
