Trainee Biomedical Scientist - MicrobiologyNHS
Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Microbiology department, with experience in an NHS Microbiology laboratory. The successful applicant will ideally be a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. Applications from Biomedical Scientists awaiting completion of the IBMS Specialist Portfolio may also be considered. Participation in the weekend, bank holiday, late shift and on-call rotas is compulsory for Specialist Biomedical Scientists.
The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent communication, organisational and team working skills, and be able to perform competently a range of laboratory techniques and procedures in multiple areas of the Microbiology laboratory. The post holder will be responsible for the effective day-to-day running of a laboratory section, and will be expected to rotate through all areas of the Microbiology laboratory.
This post is based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, although occasional travel to The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford may be required.
Main duties of the job
- Keep clear and accurate records and learn to use laboratory computer systems and specialist equipment.
- Work closely with experienced Biomedical Scientists and trainers, following laboratory procedures and asking for support when needed.
- Complete the required training and IBMS Registration Training Portfolio, working towards registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Help maintain high standards of quality, safety and confidentiality, while supporting the day-to-day running of the laboratory.
- Take part in ongoing training and, once fully trained, work as part of the laboratory's out-of-hours rota, including some weekends and Bank/Public Holidays.
