Job summary
North London Hospice is seeking an organised and compassionate Ward Clerk to join our Inpatient Unit team. This pivotal role provides day-to-day administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the unit and a positive experience for patients, families and visitors. You will act as a key point of contact, handling reception duties, maintaining patient records, supporting clinical administration and assisting with the coordination of services across the ward. Working closely with clinical and non-clinical colleagues, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred palliative care while upholding the Hospice's values and standards.
Main duties of the job
As Ward Clerk, you will provide reception and administrative support within the Inpatient Unit, welcoming patients, families and visitors and responding to telephone and email enquiries professionally and sensitively. You will maintain and update patient information systems, manage records, support pharmacy administration and provide administrative assistance to the Head of IPU and IPU Manager. The role also includes supporting stock ordering and management, coordinating administrative processes, and assisting with volunteer-related activities when required. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Hospice to ensure efficient day-to-day operations while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality, organisation and customer service.
Job description
Provide a welcoming and professional reception service for patients, visitors and healthcare professionals. Answer and respond to telephone and email enquiries promptly and efficiently. Maintain accurate patient records and update electronic information systems. Provide administrative support to the Head of IPU and IPU Manager. Support stock ordering, management and rotation for clinical and non-clinical supplies. Assist with volunteer coordination activities as required. Support the smooth operation of front-of-house services, including weekends and bank holidays where necessary. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all relevant health, safety and infection control requirements.
