Job summary
BRUNEL PRIMARY CARE NETWORKis seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse with experience in primary care respiratory care to join our multidisciplinary team and contribute to the development of high-quality respiratory services across our three member practices.
We are looking for a Registered Nurse who:
- Has experience working within primary care.
- Has some practical experience of respiratory disease management, including asthma and/or COPD.
- Has an interest in respiratory medicine and improving outcomes for patients with long-term respiratory conditions.
- Is motivated to develop their clinical knowledge, skills and competencies.
- Is willing to undertake further education and specialist respiratory training.
- Has good communication and assessment skills.
- Can work independently within their competence while recognising when to seek support.
- Enjoys collaborative working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in respiratory disease and its treatment, together with a willingness to undertake further education, training and professional development. While previous respiratory experience is essential, we recognise that applicants may be at different stages of their clinical development and will support the right candidate to expand their expertise.
Main duties of the job
You will:
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with asthma, COPD and other respiratory conditions.
- Undertake respiratory assessments and support the ongoing management of patients with long-term respiratory disease.
- Contribute to respiratory clinics across the PCN member practices.
- Support early identification and diagnosis of respiratory conditions.
- Assist with the optimisation of inhaled therapies and patient treatment plans, within your competence and scope of practice.
- Support patients with inhaler technique, self-management and education.
- Develop and extend skills in spirometry and other respiratory investigations, including interpretation where appropriately trained and competent.
- Identify patients at risk of deterioration and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Support the prevention of avoidable hospital admissions through proactive respiratory care.
- Work collaboratively with GPs, practice nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in respiratory audits, quality improvement initiatives and service development.
- Undertake relevant respiratory education and training to develop clinical knowledge, competencies and confidence.
- Work towards enhanced clinical practice through an agreed programme of professional development, where appropriate.
- Contribute to the delivery of national respiratory programmes and locally agreed priorities.
Job description
The Senior Respiratory Nurse will provide expert respiratory nursing care across Brunel Primary Care Network, delivering high-quality, evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management for patients with respiratory disease.
Working autonomously at an enhanced level of practice, the post holder will provide clinical leadership, support service development, mentor colleagues and contribute to improving respiratory outcomes across all member practices.

The Brunel Primary Care Network consists of three Practices across Portsmouth; East Shore Partnership, The Lighthouse Group and University Surgery.
We have highly skilled and motivated teams working within our PCN, which consist of GP Partners, Salaried GP's, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Diabetes and Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Nurses, GP Assistant's and HCA's; who are supported by skilled administration teams.
